Senior/Principal Engineer - Contract

Duration: On - Going

Location: Central London

Rate: Competitive Market Rate

Primary Duties:

To undertake any work of a technical nature that falls within the Jobholder's ability and competence.

To work at any position within a project team to achieve the project objectives.

To supervise and check the work of junior staff and to take part in the professional development of those staff.

When required, undertake the roles of Contractors Responsible Engineer, Project Engineer, Task Manager, Designer, Checker or Approver for all types of Operational Rail Telecoms design.

Level of Competence:

Competent to work unsupervised and to supervise others;

Competent to check and approve the work of others;

Competent to sign off design certificates on behalf of the company.

Responsibilities:

Production & checking / approving of Conceptual, Outline and Detailed Designs for Operational Rail Telecommunication Systems

Including:

  • SPT & PZT allocation
  • Jumper schedules
  • Telephone Concentrator Systems (Analogue & VOIP)
  • Copper Cable Networks
  • Structured Cabling Systems
  • Optical Fibre Networks
  • PDH & SDH (FTN) Transmission Networks
  • TCP/IP including MPLS (FTNx) Networks
  • Radio Systems including GSM-R & Wi-Fi
  • Immunisation, earthing and bonding (EMC) Production and approval of design concepts,

Mentoring of junior staff.

Planning, monitoring and reporting of project resources and finances.

Client and third party liaison.

Assisting in the establishment of internal design standards and/or processes to achieve a continuous improvement in quality and efficiency.

Contributing to long term technical development of the office by application of new techniques, procedures and practices.

Representing the company on technical matters.

Location:

The position is office based, but may require visits to clients, suppliers, third parties and work sites as required.

Essential:

  • An Engineering related degree (ideally Electrical Engineering), HNC/HND or equivalent or IRSE Principal Telecoms Design License.

  • Must have experience of working as Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) or be currently doing the role under Mentorship.

  • Extensive post-graduate relevant experience in Operational Rail Telecoms design. Candidates with experience in other Telecoms network design will be considered.

  • Working knowledge of the Network Rail GRIP process, European, British and Railway standards is desirable.

  • Knowledge of CDM and other Health and Safety legislation

  • Conversant use of MS Office suite and familiarity with the production of designs using Micro-station or Auto-Cad packages.

  • An understanding of the development of Spread sheets is essential

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Project Management software (P3, MS Project)
