Our client, an oil & gas operating company, are urgently recruiting for a Senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to be based initially in London on a contract basis.


 Provide DCS expertise support to process engineering in the implementation of the DCS functional specification and design work.

 Review of all engineering deliverables related to the DCS Systems (Instrument Index, Functional design specifications, Third party Interfaces, Fiber Optic network, Vendor drawings, etc.) for the PLANT that will be developed by an Integrator.

 Ensure coordination and integration of all systems both within and between scope of contractor, integrator, suppliers and vendors.

 Monitor, audit and guide all DCS related activities performed by the Contractor/Integrator in order to deliver a reliable and maintainable plant meeting the required availability.

 Provide OTS (Operators Training System) expertise for the development of the scope and specifications, with support from the Training Simulators Development Coordinator of the Industrial Division.

 Oversee the design and procurement of field instrumentation and process measurement devices to ensure that they meet Project requirements.

 Monitor the design and provision of instrumentation supplied as part of vendor packages to ensure that it is in accordance with Project requirements.

 Be the principal point of contact for all technical matters for field instrumentation, analysis equipment and metering systems for the Project.

 Be the Instrument representative on P&ID's, HAZOP/SIL, LOPA, HAZID and Process Safety Studies.

 Ensure that detailed engineering deliverables are designed and engineered in accordance with the Project specifications and standards.

 Liaise and coordinate with the other discipline (Process, rotating equipments, pipeline, electrical, quality, instrumentation and HSE) within the project engineering team to adequately manage the interfaces with the other disciplines

 Provide technical advice and input to other groups and disciplines within the Project engineering team, Instrumentation and Control, Process, Mechanical, Construction, Commissioning, Operations, Procurement and Commercial.

 Support the Engineering Manager and the electrical, instrumentation and telecoms package leader in coordinating/communicating various issues that affect the DCS and field instrumentation engineering design, safety, and regulatory compliance of the work.

 Prepare and submit monthly progress data, including narratives, charts, graphs, etc. on DCS and field instrumentation engineering issues to the Engineering Manager and the electrical, instrumentation and telecoms package leader.

 Provide DCS and field instrumentation input as necessary for the following, but not limited to, discipline and engineering workshops and reviews:

o PI&D's review

o HAZOPS and SIL reviews

o Criticality assessment workshop

o Value Engineering workshop

o Vulnerability study

o Risk workshop, as appropriate

 Address deviation requests to the project referential in a timely manner and with due consideration to cost and schedule.


 Graduate highly specialised Electrical engineer, with vast experience of work as discipline specialist on large oil & gas project (both engineering and field) and significant experience in the following areas is required:

 Power Distribution System components, including:

o High voltage switchgear, transformers, etc. (45 kV, 33 kV, 6.6 kV)

o Independently derived power generation sources

o Crude/Diesel Generators

o Emergency diesel generators

o Large variable frequency drives

 Uninterruptible Power Supplies

 Power Management Systems

 Fluency in English (speaking and writing), and good communication skills.

 Be able to work well as a member of a Project Team and to positively communicate with his Contractor's counterpart.

 Ability to work in a multi-cultural business environment.

 Good interpersonal and communication skills.
