The purpose of the post is to support the Lead Human Factors Engineer in ensuring that Human Factors aspects are adequately addressed within the design of the UK ABWR. The Post holder will deliver advice on Human Factors, support the development of guidance and standard documents for Human Factors, is the deputy Topic Lead for Human Factors and supports the Human Factors Community of Practice. The post holder will also support the Lead Human Factors Engineer in providing technical input, control and oversight of the design (including modifications and concessions) and perform review and acceptance of systems within the Human Factors scope of the UK ABWR.


Mandatory requirements

  • Has a degree or equivalent qualification in Human Factors, ergonomics or related discipline.
  • Demonstrates a track record of success, achievement and learning in career to date, adding value within relevant positions.
  • Experienced in Stakeholder management, including that of interfacing with Regulators on Human Factors issues.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding across a broad range of Human Factors subjects including task analysis, user interface design, human reliability analysis and human based safety claims
  • Experienced in People management / team leadership ability to build and develop organisational capability within the function and team. Inspiring and ensuring a high performing team.
  • Demonstrates personal impact, credibility and professional maturity.
  • Demonstrates strong intellect and critical thinking.
  • Delivers through strong drive and commitment.
  • Ability to learn, adapt and thrive, delivering value in a changing and evolving organisation.
  • Demonstrates consistently high leadership standards and sets an inspiring personal example through actively demonstrating and living the Vision, Values and behaviours when they are implemented.
  • Flexibility and mobility to undertake business travel as required.
  • Practical project delivery skills, with evidence of ensuring delivery to stringent deadlines and standards.
  • Strategic thinking and vision on Human Factors topics
  • Demonstrate competency in the relevant skill sets as defined in the technical skills matrix ref (HNP-S3-MGT-MTX-00001). The key skill sets are:

Desirable requirements

  • Higher degree or qualification in specialist topics related to this post, such as human reliability analysis, safety engineering or user interface design.
  • Experience in complex engineering and design projects, across related industries, such as rail, aviation or oil and gas.
  • Experience in the delivery of Human Factors integration for civil nuclear power projects.
