Our client is currently seeking a Highways/Drainage Design Engineer to join their expanding Transportation team.

Our client has an established track record of successfully delivering highways and drainage schemes to clients across the region, nationally and internationally. The team provides conceptual, preliminary and detailed design services on a wide range of projects and supports other areas of our client's business lines where their projects require it.

Our client are looking to enhance and enlarge their team with individuals who have a sound technical background and share their enthusiasm and determination to meet the needs of their expanding client base. Their position on a number of significant Transportation Frameworks and their longstanding private sector client relationships provide the team with excellent opportunities across both the public and private sector markets ensuring an exciting future and varied workload.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical input to highway/drainage schemes including design, drawing production and technical report writing.
  • Take a lead role on project elements within your particular skill area
  • Undertake site visits as required
  • Attend internal and external Project Progress meetings, as required
  • Liaise with sub-consultants and external parties as required
  • Ensure technical content and quality of output produced is in line with the project brief and AECOM's quality procedures
  • Undertake Health & Safety duties including ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for the project team members and fulfilling all responsibilities for health and safety in design
  • Act as a Deputy Project Manager (once accredited) as necessary including costing and programming studies and monitoring financial performance
  • Prepare detailed client briefs, fee proposals, technical responses and study reports for Manager Approval.
  • Support team manager in mentoring junior staff

Minimum Requirements

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
  • Demonstrable experience in highways and/or drainage design at conceptual, preliminary and detailed design stages
  • Excellent technical and communication skill.
  • Awareness of H&S Legislation and the CDM Regulations
  • Experience in use of software such as AutoCAD, Civils 3D, MX, PDS, WinDES, and the Microsoft Office Suite of programmes
  • Demonstrable application of the relevant design standards (e.g. Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, Traffic Signs Regulations, Traffic Signs Manual, Sewers for Adoption)

Preferred Qualifications

  • A graduate (or equivalent) and working towards Incorporated or Chartered membership of an appropriate professional institution
