Senior Drilling Engineer

Reports To: Chief Well Engineer, Corporate Group

Job Purpose:

London based drilling engineering support for Tullow Corporate Group to provide technical well engineering activities, such as; developing corporate standards/guidelines/specifications/procedures, best practices and lessons learned, technical solutions, contracting strategies to support Group and BDT activities, and provide Corporate quality assurance and quality control wrt well cost estimates, well design concepts, basis of design, and development planning concepts interacting with projects team, facilities and subsurface teams.


* Integrated management system - IMS (Corporate Standards and Procedures) review and update.
* KPI development and follow up
* Risk management and assurance of Business Units. Provide specialist technical support to Business Development Team's BDT's and Corporate wells teams
* Support new ventures activities
* Peer assist and audit of BDT activities
* Support BDT's to the development and implement best & common practices across the BDT's
* Support monitoring and analysis of performance across the BDT's
* Support and coordinate as required new technology development with suppliers
* Provide operational support to the BDT's as required
* Provide quality assurance of cost estimates, and budgets from BDT's
* Support preparation of cost estimates, and budgets at all levels as required
* Support Business Unit -BU's in Partner and stakeholder management
* Technical support/review at project gate reviews, internal and partner approval processes
* Review and update centrally held WE contracts and FWAs.
* Contractor and supplier performance management, including innovative solutions.

Person Specification

Education: Engineering degree and postgraduate Masters preferred


* Proven industry experience (strong well engineering practical and technical experience essential, with good knowledge & understanding of production, geology, reservoir engineer disciplines desirable)
* Extensive previous experience and knowledge of land & offshore based exploration and development drilling activities, including operations in remote locations
* Advanced knowledge of industry normal practices associated with testing, work-over, wire-line and completion operations
* Understanding of well control techniques and advanced casing design
* The engineering criteria associated with well construction and intervention operations
* Recognition of the importance of EH&S and embedding good practices
* Familiar with API, ISO & other recognized industry standards & recommended practices
* Understanding of Geological and Petroleum Engineering priorities and well associated requirements
* Well budgets and cost allocation and monitoring; cost optimization techniques
* Good knowledge and skills in the use of applications software for well & completion design
