Position Overview

Development of people and processes in all Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental requirements for the business in the UK. To lead and be accountable for all aspects of the QHSE function working with other functions to develop and improve processes with all stakeholders, be they internal, customers or suppliers. Provision of expertise and support to enable the business to meet all requirements of QHSE including but not limited to achieving and maintaining certification ensuring compliance to relevant standards and legislative requirements.

Main Responsibilities include:

  • Development and ownership of QHSE System and to be a Management Representative
  • Governance of non-conformance
  • Responsibility for ensuring action close out from non-conformances and complaints
  • Responsible for compliance with required standards, and knowledge of latest standards
  • Development and Management of Environmental significant aspects register
  • Management of Health & Safety
  • Certification audit leadership & liaison with external assessment bodies
  • Customer audit leadership & liaison with customer QHSE representatives
  • Internal audit leadership
  • Supplier audit process leadership
  • Quality control management for inbound materials
  • Quality control management for outbound products
  • EHS Risk Assessment process management
  • Understanding customer specific QHSE requirements and ensuring compliance
  • Management Review preparation & follow up
  • Development, maintenance and approval of QHSE Policy, Manual and relevant processes & procedures
  • QHSE training requirements for employees
  • Analysis and reporting of QHSE data and metrics, including Key Performance Indicators
  • Management of QHSE improvement plans
  • Management of QHSE related issues with suppliers, internally or with customers
  • Management of facilities and maintenance
  • Undertake other project and leadership activities as required

Qualifications and experience

Strong practical skills particularly within an ISO9001 environment, Continuous Improvement activities and Lean principles.

  • A QHSE specialist educated to Degree (or equivalent) in Health & Safety or Environmental Management.
  • Membership of IOSH and IEMA.
  • Trained lead auditor.
  • Expert knowledge of QHSE management.
  • Flexible and adaptable to an ever-changing business environment.
  • Commercially aware and innovative.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt. Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Access and AX Dynamics. Experience with AutoCAD software would be an advantage.
  • Experience in the implementation and management of ISO 14001, 9001 and 45001 / 18001 Management Systems.
  • Knowledge of construction management & CDM Regulations.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current HSE legislation, approved codes of practice and best practice.
  • Experience in assessing and developing HSE competencies.

  • Strong influencing and interpersonal skills, at all levels and across all functions within the organisation.
  • Knowledge and practical application in manufacturing environment delivering to customers including knowledge of quality control processes, continuous improvement tools, ISO9001, 14001 & 45001/OHSAS18001 standards.
  • Ability to develop and implement simple and robust processes, from scratch, through good understanding of the requirements of the base standard and outstanding clarity of thought.
  • Strong analytical ability. Ability to assimilate and analyse large amounts of data quickly.
  • Promotes efficiency and profitability by encouraging and facilitating best practice and high quality throughout own department.
  • Always high quality focused and sets demanding standards for the quality of own work.
  • Creates plans that translate business objectives into relevant action.
  • Manages and monitors resources, operations and projects to ensure achievement of agreed objectives.
