***Long term contract for a Proposals Estimator***

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Under the direction of the Senior Proposals Engineer, the Proposals Engineer is responsible for the timely preparation of comprehensive and professional commercial and technical tenders from receipt of Request for Quotation (RFQ) until final presentation to the customer.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Dealing with allocated and direct client/customer queries in a professional and efficient manner
  • Interpret client requirements and provide appropriate solutions following established tendering models
  • Ensure able to provide accurate and current status report for all allocated proposals to Senior Proposals Engineer/Managing Director when required (generally on a weekly basis at bid review meeting)
  • Preparation of technical and commercial proposals in line with client and company requirements
  • Identify project specific risks and opportunities to maximise operations and draw attention to potential risks for current and future projects
  • Review of customer enquiries with Senior Proposals Engineer, making any necessary amendments before final submission
  • Liaise with other departments to ensure client requirements can be met
  • Produce cost/revenue budget for each project based on standard spreadsheets
  • Liaise with technical department to ensure that specifications are achievable
  • Follow-up of target projects together with local representation
  • Provide input to improve internal procedures
  • Develop and maintain effective business relationships with existing and prospective clients

REQUIREMENTS

  • Education Required:

  • English and Maths achieved at minimum of Standard Grade level 2 (Higher passes preferred), or equivalent qualification

  • HNC or equivalent qualification in relevant subject area such as Quantity Surveying or Business Management

  • Work Experience Required:
  • Previous estimating experience preferably within the engineering/construction/service environment
  • Previous experience of preparing cost/revenue budgets
  • Experience of working in a customer/client facing role
  • Previous commercial experience, with exposure to negotiating/marketing function would be beneficial

Skills & Knowledge Required:

  • Able to present data and information clearly, concisely and tailored to the needs of the client
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to produce accurate documents in pressurised environment
  • Able to multitask and work effectively on different priorities simultaneously
