The Manchester Hydrant Transformation Project Manager is responsible for managing an appropriate sized project team, including external designers and construction contractors to build the phased construction of the new aviation fuel hydrant whilst maintaining Jet A-1supply at Manchester Airport. The PM role is for the JV Operator who owns the fuel depot and hydrant. The PM shall ensure the project is completed safely, to schedule, within budget and to Industry and aviation standards / guidelines. The project is a phased project, let in yearly phases from 2017 to an expected end date of 2024. The PM shall move each stage of the hydrant works project from Design to Construction and manage the works to the JV Operator Capital Value Process (GEN 35).

This role is responsible for the phased project delivery of the hydrant and the associated works. The role requires direct management of multi-disciplined areas and multiple interfaces.

The role is accountable for ensuring project risks are monitored, reported and mitigations managed. The role shall ensure a governance process is utilised to ensure appropriate escalation and de-escalation to ensure timely resolution and satisfactory project completion. The role reports centrally to the Global Engineering and Projects Manager and functionally to the Single Point of Accountability in the JV.

Manage the project from Execute to hand-over to the JV Operator, all stages including: liaising with stakeholders, authorities, project budget and cost control, project planning and reporting, site surveys and environmental impact assessments, design, procurement, contractor selection and tendering, site supervision incl. permit to work oversight and interfacing with the operator to commission.

Report into and participate in Project Governance Board meetings to confirm project progress in accordance with key project performance requirements.

Ensure project is progressed in accordance with the Capital Value Process.

Ensure project is executed in line with JV standards and aviation standards / guidelines, site requirements and local legislation.

To lead the project team and produce project processes to set the expectation of the projects and manage its delivery.

Liaise with operations and maintenance personnel, inspection consultants and other engineering disciplines and specialists to ensure delivery is aligned with current operating process systems.

The PM role will be based at Manchester in line with the Manchester Transformation Project timeline (which extends to 2024). At specific points during this time the PM will also support (or Manage) smaller aviation projects with a potential value in the order of $5-10m.

Essential Education & Experience:

  • Degree or equivalent in relevant engineering related discipline.

Essential experience and job requirements:

  • Significant project management experience (essential) and relevant process design and project / construction engineering experience.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable industry codes, including BS4515, pipe fitting and pipeline construction practices.
  • Ability to lead and work with multi-disciplinary teams, including contractors, JV partners, engineering and management contacts.
  • Ability to work under pressure and lead a team working for an external Client to meet tight deadlines and objectives.
  • Strong attention to detail and sound technical decision making.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Chartered engineer preferred.
