Location: Reading or Havant

Salary: £50,000 - £75,000 depending on skills and experience + car/cash allowance + annual bonus

The Role

The Metering and Smart Transformation (MaST) directorate is undergoing phenomenal change as we strive to deliver Smart Meters to our customer base in an ever-changing operational environment. In the past 10 months we have mobilised a new Transformation capability, developed 5 programmes of work focussed on FY18/19, mobilised a vision 2025 blueprint, and started to deliver significant value to the business in the form of increase Smart Demand, improved Service Delivery and reducing our Cost to Serve. This is a dynamic operational environment and you will relish working within, managing and setting the pace, dynamism, energy that this both provides and demands.

As the Programme Manager, you will lead the delivery of one or more Programmes which have an impact on over 3000 employees in MaST to agreed cost, time, quality and value outcomes. Providing governance and oversight, you will ensure exceptional delivery standards are maintained through the full programme lifecycle working in collaboration with the Portfolio Management Office and your Executive level programme sponsors.

You will be a senior leader within the MaST Transformation team, and play a crucial role in the delivery of our FY 18/19 business plan, and the coaching and development of our people as we develop a market leading transformation capability.

Our programmes typically compromise of mixed discipline teams made up of Continuous Improvement, Project Management, Business SMEs, Technology Design and IT team members and you will be comfortable with a mixed delivery model within your programme and able to coach and develop individuals with varying experience and capabilities.

Your Skills and Experience

We are looking for someone to join us with an extensive level of experience in leading programmes of working a complex matrix organisation. You will have commercial acumen and will be skilled at delivering value through business transformation. You will be able to structure, mobilise, baseline and execute value from programmes from a standing start, your accountabilities will include executive level planning and reporting, financial management (including benefits identification and realisaiton) arrangements, delivery resource coaching and leadership.

A demonstrable track record of delivery is crucial for your consideration for this role, ideally, but not explicitly combined with formalised relevant project / programme management qualifications and / or Lean Six Sigma (Green / Black belt)

You will have excellent communication skills and operate with confidence and credibility across all layers of our organisation. Skilled at problem solving you will be knowledge of both DMAIC and PDCA problem solving methodologies, and have used these in a similar role before.

Programme Manager

  • Seasoned Programme Manager (or possibly Senior PM) experienced managing programmes of c.£4mill+ Business change/ delivery focus rather than technology
  • Experienced team manager - likely to be matrix managing 8+ people
  • Brilliant attitude - need to be people that are really going to come in and drive change, taking full responsibility for delivery
  • Proven ability to coach and train PMs whilst also moving programme forward
