Orion Group are looking for a Process Technician for our multinational medical devices client based in the Surrey/Middlesex area on an initial 6-month contract with the potential to extend.

Job Purpose
To understand and contribute to achieving the goals of the client, by efficiently carrying out any assigned operation or task, using your skills to the highest appropriate level.
This role is not assigned to specific area; however, individual responsibilities will be assigned by personal objectives to match those of the site business plan.
Multi- Skilled Process Technicians will support functions all staff to enable the Site Engineering to operate effectively within budget.

Main Responsibilities of the role

  • Assume responsibility for the mechanical and electrical integrity of equipment by carrying out the following: -
    Maintaining equipment uptime @ 98% through proactive maintenance and quality of workmanship
    * Continuous focus on process /equipment optimisation
    * Follow through on maintenance in timely manner and to quality standard
    * Follow through and deliver on assigned engineering improvement projects
  • Control of contractors and issuing of Permits to Work
  • Compile and produce Change Control documentation for site equipment and processes
  • Supporting the Engineering Manager in compiling test plans and procedures for Quality Systems and Change Control Board
  • Effective planned maintenance inspections and record on CMMS
  • Continually improve PM schedules, ensuring adding value
  • Carry out Continuous Improvement, Root Cause Analysis and other requested work
  • Continually monitor areas of equipment, liaising with Operations staff to meet changes as required
  • Drive Operational/Engineering KPIs to hit and exceed set targets
  • Report performance using appropriate Company systems and ensure communication of any non-conformance issues as appropriate, to the relevant persons e.g. Operations, Quality or Engineering Manager
  • Maintaining Engineering downtime information, shift handover logs, equipment monitoring, trials, Planned Maintenance & continuous improvement activities are all part of the clients Engineering pre-requisites for the Engineering Technician Role
  • Maintain BS13485 & Safety Standards, especially Permits to Work, Lock Out Tag Out, Contractors and all personnel
  • To efficiently manage, control, train or carry out any assigned or self-directed engineering tasks, projects or business related processes, which contribute directly or indirectly to the client. Flexibility will be required in order to maintain a balance of priorities across the business

Desired Experience and Background of the successful candidate

  • A professional engineering qualification will be required for this role to at least City & Guilds level, NVQ level 3 or equivalent in an electrical/mechanical discipline with corresponding practical experience
  • PLC skills (desirable)
  • Electrical comprehension skills/Mechanical comprehension skills
  • Practical engineering knowledge/Fault finding skills
  • Knowledge of COSHH to legislative standards/Knowledge of Lock out Tag Out procedure/processes
  • Risk Assessment trained (desirable)/Authorised Permit To Work trained (essential)
  • Confined space working
  • Experience of HV/LV switchgear operation
  • Ability to clearly understand engineering drawings, symbols and notation
  • Experience of pneumatic systems
  • Experience of Automated Processes

  • Quality, Safety & Hygiene- ensure that all work is completed to BS13485 quality standards, whilst ensuring that safety procedures are adhered to at all times
  • Problem solving-the ability to solve problems by considering all options, evaluating potential solutions, and implementing actions using RCA
  • Continuous improvement-strive to seek ways of improving all measurable KPIs by engineering out repetitive faults
  • Business awareness- understands the broader business environment and recognises the short and long term implications of actions

  • Ability to work consistently within an automated supply chain environment
