Job description
We are pleased to have been retained by a leading subsidiary of a global German Machinery and Plant engineering company. With operations in Germany, the US, China, India, Slovakia, and Italy, they specialize in Process Technology, Building Materials, and Recycling. Their Charlotte-based subsidiary is currently seeking a skilled Process Engineer to join their dedicated team.
Role Overview:
The Process Engineer will be essential in providing technical support across various stages of the engineering process, including filter selection, equipment sizing, and post-sales project management. This role, based in Charlotte, NC, requires several years of in-plant experience, particularly in troubleshooting processes and equipment. The position involves up to 40% travel to support customer sites and ensure process optimization.
What You'll Do:
Laboratory & Pilot Testing:
- Conduct benchtop scale filtration testing and supervise pilot filter installations.
- Perform scale-up calculations to transition test results to full-scale equipment.
- Prepare technical reports to summarize findings and support decision-making.
Equipment Specification & Design:
- Determine the appropriate equipment type, size, and features for each application.
- Draft technical specifications for detailed quotations and control logic narratives.
Customer Support & Project Management:
- Address technical questions related to equipment design, operation, and sales.
- Manage post-sales projects, including commissioning support and process startups.
Commissioning & Optimization:
- Travel to customer sites to assist with initial water batching and process startups.
- Lead operator training and process troubleshooting/optimization for existing systems.
Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure adherence to company policies, industry standards, and safety protocols.
- Maintain a safe working environment during all testing and operational activities.
What You'll Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience in a chemical production plant, particularly in process troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with GA Drawings, P&ID, and Electrical/Pneumatic schematics.
- Strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to take initiative and resolve complex problems effectively.
- Task-oriented with a high sense of urgency and the ability to multitask.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of working with various levels of an organization.
Work Environment:
- This role may require standing for extended periods, lifting heavy parts, and operating a forklift.
- The position involves working in laboratory and chemical production plant settings, with exposure to various equipment and materials.
