Previous experience within process industries including oil and gas, pharmaceutical, chemicals, nuclear.

Responsible for ensuring that the Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) aspects of each project design are maintained to the relevant acceptable standards and comply with applicable legislation.

Responsible for managing and policing the Design HSE activities and deliverables on projects as detailed in this job description.

Responsible for managing, producing and coordinating Design HSE activities and deliverables across the nuclear sector.

Assist in setting HSE Criteria for the project and in the preparation and content of the Design HSE Plan and Environmental Plan in accordance with SOPs and/or client procedures. Carry out the checking of progress against the plan.

Execute and monitor Design HSE activities which typically will entail:

Gathering and compiling Process safety and Environmental information

Establish risk tolerances
Execution of Hazard Studies
Completion of an Environmental Impact Risk Assessment
Design HSE Reviews such as Human factors, Hazardous Area Classification, Inherent Safety, and Alarm Prioritisation.
Recommend where any additional HSE reviews are necessary because of scope change, design development, etc.
Check that all required HSE Reviews are completed.
Oversee maintenance of the Design HSE Concern Register and close out any long standing actions with assistance from Engineering Management as necessary.;
At the end of each project phase, ensure that all lists, files reports, etc. are filed correctly, ready for input to the next project phase.;
To act as the HSE expert for all projects, supporting project management and engineering disciplines with design HSE concerns and queries.
