My global Logistics client has an exciting opportunity for an Operations Manager to join their business. You will be reporting into the General Manager and play a critical role in delivering a successful operation. You will be responsible for leading a team of warehouse operatives, team leaders and shift managers on a daily basis.

The Operations Manager will need to balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, while delivering all key performance indicators. You will need to co-ordinate the shift managers to deliver operational excellence for safety, quality and efficiency on a daily basis, whilst staying focused on the needs of clients and all other key stakeholders. Additionally, you will need to drive continuous improvement activities and long term plans to deliver measurable change within the operation.

The Operations Manager will be required to work with the wider business to ensure the successful implantation of new client business. You will also have direct interaction with several clients to further develop relationships, understand the client's needs and continuously improve the client experience.

Key Responsibilities include;

  • Deliver and lead a culture of safety within the operation, through team-mate engagement, pro-active identification of issues and understanding of incident root cause through accident investigation.
  • Ensure that the company is compliant with industry regulations, by working with the quality department to maintain and develop SOPs. Take responsibility to be aware of and address issues with SOP non-compliance.
  • Lead the continuous improvement program for the shift, focused on safety, quality and productivity. Use Lean principles to guide improvements.
  • Engage in root cause analysis activities to eliminate problems from the operation.
  • Develop and maintain resourcing plans to ensure your shift has sufficient resources to meet the daily operational demands. Co-ordinate the shift managers so resources are balanced efficiently across the shifts. Ensure that the right resources and right equipment are available at the right time.
  • Engage directly with change manager and the business development teams to deliver successful client implementations.
  • Work with key account managers to engage with clients and resolve any potential issues.
  • Develop long term plans to improve operational performance.
  • Lead teammate engagement activities
  • Take ownership to problem solve issues for clients and work collaboratively with other functions to find solutions for the clients and patients.
  • Carry out management responsibilities in accordance with the organisation's policies and procedures.
  • Become a subject matter expert in your area and share knowledge to develop others to become subject matter experts.
  • Create personal development plans for managers.
  • Set out key requirements and expectations for the shift managers on a daily basis.
  • Monitor operational performance to ensure daily operational targets are met.
  • Co-ordinate the shift managers to deliver the site's successful achievement of Key Performance Indicators, not exclusive to, but including;
  • Inventory accuracy
  • Non-conformance reports
  • Late Picks
  • Goods in putaway
  • Throughput per hour
  • Ensure that product is accurately moved and tracked both virtually and physically throughout the operation.
  • Present data and facts to support operational decision making.
  • Performance manage shift managers in accordance with company policy.
  • Provide management cover one weekend in four to control operational emergencies such as; emergency lifesaving orders, temperature excursions, intruder activations or security breaches.
  • In addition to your normal duties you may be required to undertake other duties in line with the needs of the business and flexibility should be recognised as a prerequisite of the role

Additional attributes for the job;

  • 3+ years' experience in managing/leading teams and working in fast moving environments.
  • Ability to effectively and purposefully analyse data.
  • Delivering and leading process change.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in team environment.
  • Experience in managing large teams.
  • Working knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems.
  • Experience of using Lean Principles to drive change
  • Degree Qualification.
  • Logistics 3PL experience.
  • Six Sigma experience
