Mechanical Design Engineer - Product Design (Components)


Salary - £35,000 - £40,000 depending on experience

Location - Fife

An exciting permanent opportunity has arisen with our client based in Glenrothes.

Degree Level (Mechanical or Product Design ), however HND with practical experience also considered

  • Min experience 2 - 3 years
  • Experience in structured NPI/NPD process (new product introduction/new product development)
  • Product design and development background
  • IT Packages
    • 3D CAD packages - ideally includes SolidWorks
    • Proficient in MS Office, with emphasis on word and excel
    • No experience on BAAN/CRM required as training will be given
  • Articulate and able to present to small groups
  • Good attitude and self motivated, proactive in approach to work, driven, desire to improve and develop
  • Fast paced environment, challenging deadlines, problem solver, eye for detail
  • Team player but also needs to be able to work independently


Essential Functions

  • Identify tasks to be completed in order to turn a concept into a documented engineering solution.
  • Provide assistance to project and resource managers with regards to project planning activities.
  • Competent at identifying risks and providing solutions to eliminate or reduce risks.
  • Utilize 2D and 3D CAD modeling tools (Solidworks) to generate product documentation and communicate design intent.
  • Liaise with suppliers, consultants, and stakeholders to ensure designs conform and comply to customer requirements.
  • Ensure designs are generated within the required schedules and timescales.
  • Ensuring that the product set complies with current standards and legislation.
  • Writing of technical support documentation (specification and reporting).


  • Knowledge of design for manufacturing, injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, die casting and prototyping techniques would be a distinct advantage.
  • Operating in a fast-paced environment to challenging deadlines.
  • Have proven experience in a design and development engineering role.
  • Demonstrate a proven track record in generating designs in an efficient professional manner.
  • Skilled in facilitating agreement between different teams and resolving conflicting technical views.
  • Be able to work with minimal supervision and to strict project deadlines
