An opportunity exists for an experienced Project Manager to join our site based team in support of a major programme of work for the MoD based in Norfolk. The works comprise the design, planning and construction of various operational accommodation buildings, aircraft operating surfaces and AGL, security and general site infrastructure. The role involves responsibility at a senior project management level and includes managing a Design & Construct contract under NEC3 - Option A. The candidate will be working full-time on site overseeing the delivery of a construction contract on a live military airfield. The PM will work alongside the Client's Team as part of the existing project management team comprising PMs and Site Supervisors, with support from internal and external multidisciplinary support teams, including sub-consultants, as required. This project is the main works project in a programme of enabling and main works projects and as such there will be a requirement for strong stakeholder management skills to ensure effective interface management with the other work packages and with both the project and airfield stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities:

  • As Project Manager you will work as part of the project management team and be responsible for successfully managing the delivery of a discrete construction contract;
  • The role will cover the construction phase, including the commissioning & Take Over phases;
  • Management and Contract Administration (NEC3) of the construction project;
  • You will possess the skills and experience to lead and manage a site based team on a technically complex project and for developing collaborative relationships with our clients, project and airfield stakeholders and other programme project teams;
  • Managing internal and external multidisciplinary support teams, including sub-consultants;
  • Ability to work within a partnering environment and form effective working relationships;
  • Preparation of monthly PM reports;
  • Preparation of Risk Registers;
  • Commercially and contractually aware;
  • Responsible for delivering a broad range of project management concepts, tools and techniques;
  • Responsible for monitoring and reporting project performance metrics, including Earned Value Management;
  • Commitment to a high level of Health & Safety performance at the workplace and in the local environment.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Excellent understanding and experience of managing NEC3 contracts;
  • Minimum of 10 years relevant experience in major construction projects, with a value >£50M;
  • Experience of working on live civilian/military airfields would be an advantage;
  • Experience in the Project Management of multi-discipline engineering design and construction projects (>£50M Capital Expenditure);
  • Experience of successfully delivering project goals during construction to project handover stage;
  • Strong experience of delivering large technically complex projects;
  • Experienced in a Client facing role;
  • Strong experienced and confidence to lead internal and external teams, plus Stakeholder


  • Commercially aware, in terms of understanding the key components of Cost and Change Management processes;
  • Experienced at assessing programmes in accordance with NEC3;
  • Ability to use programming software, e.g. MS Project/ Asta/ P3 for monitoring and reporting.


  • degree qualified, ideally MSc or B/MEng Civil Engineering / Structural Engineering Project management qualification (either academic, professional or both) preferred;
  • Membership of a recognised Construction Industry Professional Body i.e. MRICS, MICE, MCIOB, MAPM or other equivalent institution membership;
  • NEC3 Accredited;
  • Holder of a current CSCS card
  • Security Clearance to SC level will be required
