Job Description: Mechanical Project Engineer

We currently have a vacancy for a mechanical project engineer to be employed within the Glasgow operation, though located at Mossmorran, for a period of approximately 12-months.


Candidates will possess a degree in mechanical engineering, shall be a chartered engineer or working towards chartered status, and have a minimum of 5 years' relevant projects or mechanical engineering experience gained within the oil and gas, pharmaceutical, chemical or nuclear industries.

Desired experience includes:

a) An understanding of engineering and project management principles, industry practices, standards, and their application. This entails being conversant with current legislation, relevant engineering equipment standards, and relevant EU Directives.

b) A demonstrable track record in the execution of engineering projects, with particular experience of storage tanks being desirable.


The mechanical project engineer will be responsible for the effective execution of projects including ownership of safety, scope, schedule, cost, and quality aspects within agreed specific objectives. Ensure adherence to project processes and procedures within the bounds of the client's Capital Project Management System (EMCAPS).

Main duties will include:

The Project Engineer shall define the project scope, and align resources, cost, and schedule within a formal project plan document.


Produce a project specific SSHE plan and ensure that the project is carried out with safety placed as the top priority.

Project Estimate and Schedule

Coordinate the compilation of overall project cost and schedule estimates, to a level of accuracy required at each gate review.

Engineering and Design

Direct and monitor engineering and design effort associated with the project.

Procurement and Contracts

Establish procurement and contract strategies. Contract ownership may be delegated to the project engineer if appropriate.


Ensure that the project is delivered to high quality standards. The Project Engineer shall coordinate production of a project quality plan.

Resources and Organisation

The Project Engineer shall define resource requirements and project organisation structure, and shall develop and maintain positive working relationships within the project team, fostering a professional and ethical environment. Regular project coordination and progress meetings shall be organised and led by the Project Engineer.


The Project Engineer is responsible for stewarding contractor performance, shall initiate and coordinate constructability reviews, shall coordinate construction resources, and shall ensure CDM compliance.

Project Change

Change control shall be managed robustly to mitigate against project cost and schedule risk.

Project Risks

The Project Engineer shall identify and mitigate project risks, compiling and maintaining a project risk register.
