We require mechanical engineers, preferably with experience of working in the nuclear/defence industries, but also those with relevant conventional design experience looking to work in a technically challenging environment.

Working in Technology and Defence in Glasgow, you will be involved in delivering design, analysis and assessment projects in a multi-discipline environment. The team includes a wealth of experience and expertise in the design and substantiation of nuclear safety related equipment. Sharing of knowledge and learning of new skills is actively encouraged.
Your responsibilities will include:
to be a recognised discipline expert in mechanical engineering in the construction industry, for example in the building services, process, energy or water industries, and to take on a lead role in the development of solutions to project issues relating to mechanical engineering
mechanical discipline lead in large projects, and leading smaller projects focused on mechanical engineering
technical quality and excellence of your work and the work of those working under you
technical and professional guidance, support and development of more junior engineers and technicians
communication with clients and other design team members
project planning, delivery and financial performance
business development activities including mechanical engineering aspects of proposals
adherence and contribution to business and quality management systems operational and design safety, and developing good safety culture
to have a sound understanding of the fundamentals of the design of mechanical engineering systems found in construction projects and to be familiar with the relevant UK and European standards and industry best practice
to have an understanding of the application of one or several computer based modelling techniques, for example, computational fluid dynamics
to have a working knowledge of the application of BIM in construction projects and the management of model and drawing production
good verbal and written communication, and report writing skills
ability to lead design aspects of projects including managing quality, budget, programme and resources
proven ability to work as part of a team, liasing directly with clients and other design team members
accredited MEng degree
Chartered Engineer with a recognised UK Institution or be working towards chartered status
to have a background understanding of the control and protection systems used within mechanical engineering systems
to have a background understanding of the principles of nuclear safety as applied on both civilian and military applications

experience of working on a nuclear licensed site in some capacity and to be familiar with the safety and quality standards that are expected
