OrionGroup are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer on behalf of our Multinational Medical Device Client on an initial 12 month contract based in the West Yorkshire Area.

Experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design and delivery of models, drawings and associated design verification, including functional and risk analysis activities, of medical devices developed as part of a time critical project. They will need to be a problem solver with the ability to effectively turn customer requirements into design solutions. Delivery of 3D-CAD modelling and detail will be expected to be in accordance to ISO/ASME and company standards including the use and understanding of, for example, geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing and weld specification. Experience working within Teamcenter and Siemens NX are desirable.

The project team is diverse and the incumbent will be expected to work closely with Product Development Engineers, project managers, other mechanical design engineers and external vendors.

The project timelines are strict, therefore excellent time management and ability to deal with challenging deliverable is essential. Communication and negotiation skills are also essential to facilitate timely approval and checking routes.

The successful candidate will be required to work within our local and global systems to manage documentation in a compliant manner. .

Competency in the design for manufacture of plastic injection moulded parts and/or medical devices will be an advantage

Critical skills

Ability to design, perform and verify engineering calculations and simulations that verify detailed designs and minimise physical testing

Possess a good understanding of stainless steels and polymers with the ability to rationalise appropriate selection criteria

Understand the limitations of common manufacturing processes and inspection techniques

Take ownership for design commitments, delivering to agreed timescales in line with project plans

Proactively manage design related engineering changes

Ability to work without supervision

Team working skills and flexibility

Confident and effective communicator

Possess a thorough understanding of the product development process, with a grasp of the specific requirements applicable to medical devices being advantageous

Knowledge of Design for Six Sigma methodology would also be beneficial
