Our Client's Infrastructure Services provide a range of services to ensure infrastructure is compliant, maintained and developed for the safe operation of activities and to ensure services provided offer value for money. Our Client has a vision to become the first net zero carbon regional group in the world and this role is key for helping to develop the operational plan to achieve this goal.

Reporting to the Head of Infrastructure Services, the role of the Low Carbon Mechanical & Electrical Engineer will be to identify, evaluate, recommend and implement the most appropriate energy sources and accompanying infrastructure to deliver the carbon zero journey in order to meet Scottish Government commitments.

They will also play a vital role in the delivery of a Sustainable Test Environment project.

The individual is expected to define and oversee a significant portfolio of infrastructure projects and provide support and guidance to other project managers within the company.

Main responsibilities:

  • Developing innovative solutions, resolving design and development problems
  • Provide effective management support to project teams
  • Co-ordinate quality activities to meet quality objectives. Managing project risks, issues and change control, communicating the impact to the project
  • Monitor projects against time, budget and quality standards
  • Assist/peer review project documentation including project briefs, board paper and business cases
  • Conduct or contribute to post implementation reviews and identifying any lessons learned
  • Align programme of works to the company Environmental Strategy and policy
  • Develop project specifications and scope
  • Assist with the tendering process - In conjunction with the Procurement Manager and Consultants prepare documentation, obtain competitive/negotiated tenders, and recommend appointments for external consultants and contractors to be engaged by the company for works projects
  • Manage budgets and other project resources
  • Review and approve project drawings and documentation
  • Adopt all relevant requirements around issues such as electrical, mechanical and environmental regulations and safe working practices
  • Attend meetings with multidisciplinary design teams as the Client MEP project lead.
  • Assessing the potential risks of specific projects following the company Safety Management System as well as undertaking risk management in specialist roles
  • Ensure health, safety and environment issues are effectively captured for each project and support project managers to document the risks identified.
  • Support project managers to update the company safety management system with relevant project risks.
  • Lead by example by taking care of the health and safety of yourself and others.


The base location for the role can be Inverness Head Office, Wick or Kirkwall and may also involve visiting other locations (Scotland based).

Hours of work:

Monday to Friday during standard hours, 40 hours per week.
