My Client is looking to bring on a Legal consultant part-time, to support large commercial projects and manage external legal counsel. The position is based in Hull, working 3 days p/w.



Employment Status:

Part-Time 12 Month Contract (3 days per week)



Client Background:

  • The Client has an opportunity for a legal counsel to take on a new and exciting role based in either Hull or Windsor as its principal legal adviser.
  • The Client is a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Client. The Client previously operated the largest gas storage facility in the UK (Rough). Since January 2018, the Client has ended all storage operations and has commenced producing native gas from the Rough field, with production operations expected to continue for at least four years. Following production of all recoverable native gas, the Client will commence a significant decommissioning program, including two offshore platforms, 30 wells and two sea lines.
  • The Client also owns the Easington processing terminal in East Yorkshire which was historically used to process stored gas from Rough. With rough moving to production, the Easington terminal has significant available processing capacity, grid connection and associated rights that can be offered to third parties and the Client is actively pursuing opportunities to win third party gas processing business.
  • This is an opportunity to gain experience working as the principal legal advisor to a dynamic and evolving business. The focus of the work will be offshore oil and gas contracts associated with supply chain, maintenance, construction, gas and condensate processing and decommissioning.

The role exists primarily:

  • to fulfil the Client's day-to-day requirements for legal support
  • to lead the provision of legal support to specific commercial projects
  • to coordinate external legal advice where required and manage external legal counsel


Providing legal support for offers for third party gas and condensate processing opportunities, including negotiating Construction and Tie-In Agreements, and Processing and Operating Services Agreements

Providing legal support for the negotiation and execution of decommissioning documentation, including EPC contracts and mobile drilling contracts

Drafting and negotiating other legal documentation to reflect the Client's business requirements, including confidentiality arrangements, heads of terms and credit security documents

Managing and directing the Client's external legal advisers

The Person:

  • Educated to degree level or significant industry experience.
  • Qualified lawyer 3+ PQE
  • In-house experience in upstream oil and gas - 'standard off shore agreements'
  • Familiarity with LOGIC and BIMCO suite of contracts
  • Skilled in contract drafting
  • Ability to manage and consult internal stakeholders and prioritise competing demands in a dynamic company environment
  • Strong ability to form business-like effective relationships internally
  • Good communication skills
