Lead Oracle DBA & System Administrator

This is a unique opportunity to join a leading brand name operating across the UK from their Head Office in Scotland sitting between the Systems and Development Team to effectively lead the technology area and production-system tasks to run the business.

Maintenance and daily operation of the system administration activities to ensure the stability and performance of the company's Oracle databases, this is a critical role with key relationships both internally and externally.

The role:

  • Responsibility for the complete software development process
  • Planning and strategic development of the infrastructure
  • Implementation of infrastructure initiatives, fixing bugs, delivering projects and change requests and ultimately providing key high quality solutions
  • Provision of accurate incident logging and problem resolution
  • Maintenance of system uptime and availability
  • Database Management for Oracle databases, knowledge of Microsoft SQL and MySQL
  • Work in conjunction with the Development Team to design databases and improve the performance of SQL
  • Actively contribute process improvement ideas to increase efficiency across existing processes
  • Tracking, auditing and reporting change both hardware and software
  • Provide both operational and production support of applications and services such as batch processing, recovery provisions and associated applications
  • Ensure that 24 hour support for transfer, storage and processing is timely, efficient and at required and agreed service levels.

The person:

  • Outstanding Oracle database administration experience
  • Experience in design and implementation of software and platform architecture
  • Good understanding of UNIX OS
  • Experience of SQL databases
  • Degree educated in an ideally related subject
  • Must have demonstrable career history of a minimum of 4 years within IT
  • Experience of working as a developer, or in a DevOps Environment is a distinct advantage
  • Clear communicator and able to translate complex material and processes for non IT
