Junior Oracle DBA & System Administrator

This is a unique opportunity to join a leading brand name operating across the UK from their Head Office in Scotland due to a restructure enabling them to grow this critical area of the Systems and Development Divisions.

Daily Operational and System administration activities to run and maintain the IT services and applications across the business- particularly the company wide Oracle database.

The role:

  • Supporting the Lead Oracle DBA in the implementation of the software development process
  • Assisting in the planning and operational development of the infrastructure
  • Ensuring that key issues and bugs are highlighted, fixed or escalated as appropriate
  • Provision of accurate incident logging and problem resolution
  • Maintenance of system uptime and availability
  • Database Management for Oracle databases, knowledge of Microsoft SQL and MySQL would be useful
  • Actively contribute process improvement ideas to increase efficiency across existing processes
  • Tracking, auditing and reporting change both hardware and software
  • Ensure that 24 hour support for transfer, storage and processing is timely, efficient and at required and agreed service levels.

The person:

  • Outstanding Oracle database administration experience
  • Experience in design and implementation of software and platform architecture
  • Understanding of UNIX OS is desirable
  • Experience of SQL databases is an advantage
  • Ideally Degree educated in an IT related or Business subject
  • Must have demonstrable career history of a minimum of 2 years within IT
  • Experience of working as a developer, or in a DevOps Environment is a distinct advantage
  • Clear communicator and able to translate complex material and processes for non IT
