HR ADVISOR - JOB DESCRIPTION

The postholder will undertake a review of recruitment and selection within the company including a review of preemployment medical standards and assessment methods and techniques currently utilised.

  1. Provide advice and support in relation to the company's duties, responsibilities and plans regarding equality, diversity, and inclusion. This will include providing advice and guidance to managers on employment and service delivery matters as well as a range of Company policies.
  2. Analyse staff data by gender and other diversity characteristics and produce graphs and trend analysis to present the information for Senior Management Team and other audiences as required.
  3. Work with Head of Communications to review customer compliments and complaints, ensuring any diversity issues are addressed.
  4. Advise on the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion elements of relevant projects.
  5. Work with the Learning and Development Manager to create and deliver a suite of relevant Equality, Diversity and Inclusion learning opportunities for staff.
  6. Work with the Learning and Development Manager to identify learning needs in relation to specialist portfolio.
  7. Responsible for the recruitment and selection processes across the company and ensuring these are fit for purpose.

Acts as the subject matter expert to support the development and delivery of training.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES OF THE POST

All HR Advisors:

  1. Provide advice, guidance and coaching to managers and employees on terms and conditions of employment and HR policies.
  2. Provide advice and guidance to managers on best practice, policy and employment legislation on issues including discipline, grievance and performance management and absence management.
  3. Management of a caseload supporting line managers to resolve individual cases.
  4. Contribute to working groups to improve policies in conjunction with managers, staff members, union officials and representatives.
  5. Manage and support an HR Assistant ensuring that a high standard of HR service is provided.
  6. Alongside the other HR Advisors ensure that the HR Assistants work flexibly to cover the needs of the business which will involve undertaking work for other business areas as required and ensuring periods of leave and absence are covered.
  7. Produce regular and ad hoc management and statistical staffing information for senior management and/or external organisations.
  8. Assist in the compiling of the department budget providing information on previous spend and forecast spend taking various known factors into consideration.
  9. To contribute to the development of companywide HR initiatives and to proactively identify opportunities for improvement.
  10. Liaise with the external Pension Fund Administrators dealing with any queries or issues that arise.
  11. Support managers with recruitment as required e.g., undertaking shortlisting and interviewing.
  12. Manage the interface between the HR and Payroll teams, dealing with any queries or issues that arise.
  13. Input to training course development for people management related courses and support the Learning and Development team in facilitation of training courses on occasion to assist managers to develop their skills and expertise.
  14. Contribute to procurement for the HR team and undertake contract monitoring in the form of regular meetings with suppliers, in line with Scottish Government Procurement policy.
  15. Prepare and/or contribute to workforce information reports and briefing notes for Senior Management team and groups as required.
  16. Support HR/OrganisationaI Development projects as required.
  17. Deputising for the HR Manager in their absence.
