Job description
The assurance directorate support and provide assurance that working arrangements and practices protect the safety of staff, contractors and the public, whilst protecting environment and preventing damage or loss.
Provide authoritative advice and support on construction/industrial health and safety matters as defined standards and procedures to progress the ongoing work programme. The job holder will be responsible for providing authoritative advice on industrial health and safety matters on construction projects, as defined in UK legislation, good practice and client standards and procedures.
Main responsibilities
Liaise with facility/project teams to provide industrial health and safety advice and support to site construction/demolition projects
Contribute to the design and delivery of industrial health and safety training
Liaise with both internal and external stakeholders on health and safety issues
Take part in and, on occasion chair investigations
Undertake and report on planned and un-planned industrial health and safety inspections, report observed safety deficiencies and suggest remedial action
Advise/assist projects with the preparation of pre-construction information
Review and comment on contractor documentation, and site management system documentation
Mentor other safety advisors in the field of construction
Perform the responsibilities of management appointments relevant to post
Skills/Experience:
Industrial/construction experience
Working knowledge of CDM regulations
Proactive and methodical approach with a questioning attitude
Basic computer package user experience, including Word, Excel
Ability to use own initiative, particularly when responding to real time situations. Effective communicator, with the ability to influence the behaviour of others and liaise with contractors and management at all levels in an appropriately professional manner.
A cohesive team player who can work with minimal supervision
Graduate membership of IOSH/NEBOSH construction certificate or equivalent
