My Global Engineering client has an exciting opportunity for a Global Category Manager to join their team based in Glasgow. You will lead and develop their category strategy and to drive related cost reduction initiatives globally. You will be expected to be a "subject matter expert" and provide guidance and support to internal stakeholders, optimising both the development of the sourcing strategy and its execution. Main Categories include; Pressure vessels, Lubrication systems, Cooling systems, Valves, Pumps, Seals and Instrumentation. The role holder will be expected to travel frequently to other locations and suppliers (25% of international travel expected).

You will have the following;

  • Degree in engineering, business administration, finance or related discipline
  • Experience of working across multiple locations
  • Previous strategic sourcing experience in an engineering environment
  • Experience within a project driven Engineer-To-Order (ETO) manufacturing environment
  • Strong leadership capabilities to deliver results and to build cross-functional teams
  • Strategic focus with the ability to analyse, formulate and implement strategic procurement strategies to significantly reduce cost for a global business
  • Experience in negotiating high-value, complex procurement agreements
  • Excellent team player with the ability to work in a matrix environment with multiple customers
  • Strong inter-personal skills

  • Sets personal deliverables and works to high standards
  • Knowledge of Supply Chain processes, procedures and theory
  • Accurately captures, records and communicates information

Role Accountabilities;

  • Develop and execute the global sourcing strategy to maximize the value of bought-in services and products, ensuring alignment of approach across the regions.
  • Ensure that category strategy deliverables are achieved on-time through applying Project Management skills.
  • Accountable for the Preferred Supplier list for the Category.
  • For the Category ensure that all Preferred Suppliers are under contract and regular reviews are in place.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and partners.
  • Optimise the performance of the suppliers in dimensions including cost reduction, supplier delivery and quality performance, risk mitigation, commodity economics, working capital improvement, and contract compliance.
  • Pro-actively participate in Product Development projects and lead collaboration with suppliers to develop innovative Value Analysis/ Value Engineering opportunities.
  • For high value contracts lead supplier negotiation on pricing, payment terms, delivery terms, quality targets, consignment stocking policies
  • Develop and maintain improvement targets, measurement and reporting for the category.
  • Support new acquisitions through due diligence and integration phases where required.
  • Develop and manage communication plan, to include engagement activity, dissemination of sourcing strategy and compliance.
  • Liaise with Sales to ensure that we have the best-fit suppliers to satisfy "Voice of the Customer"
  • Working with the Sourcing Hubs, identify and present Best Value Sourcing (BVS) opportunities (including business case) to senior stakeholders
