Job description

Our Client, a leading brand within FMCG manufacturing currently have an opportunity for the General Manager in Fort William to join them on a permanent basis.

Reporting to the Managing Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following functions:

  • Managing business services including: Finance, HR, HSE and Administration
  • Managing outbound logistics
  • Being part of the Management Team

Finance:

  • Ensure the team delivers effective routine accounting operations including: payables/receivables, general ledger, month and year end processes, budget tracking, credit control
  • Assist the business to draw up its budgets and forecasts
  • Work with department managers to analyse business targets, provide key insights and constructively challenge where appropriate
  • Ensure all VAT and HMRC payments and reports are accurate and on time
  • Ensure the team provides the financial reports and analyses required by the business
  • Ensure that staff payroll and pension provisions are managed appropriately and meet all legal requirements
  • Ensure adequate governance of finance operations including internal controls and audits
  • Ensure all financial operations are compliant with Group requirements

HR:

  • Provide the business with the key people processes: Personnel Records, Reward, Recruitment and Induction, Performance Management, Staff Communication and Consultation, Discipline and Grievance, Absence Management, Annual Leave, Training And Development etc.
  • Ensure all HR processes and documentation are legally compliant.
  • Directly support the MD and Line Managers to understand their responsibilities and handle HR issues
  • Design and deliver any people analytics required by the business

HSE:

  • Oversee the work of the Manager in relation to safety, health and environment responsibilities. Provide instruction and guidance where necessary (seeking professional support if required) to ensure that the business has compliant HSE systems and resources in place
  • Ensure training and guidance on safety, health and environment is available for all managers and employees as required
  • Support the Managing Director and Management Team to keep health and safety as a critical and visible part of daily operations

Administration:

  • Manage the business admin services including reception, office supplies, office building maintenance, site security, utilities and IT
  • Lead the refinement, development and implementation of lean and efficient administrative systems (in various areas of the business)
  • Assist the MD in dealing with local authority on rates, planning permissions etc.
  • Responsible for advising on staff and customer data protection legislative requirements, action planning, implementation and monitoring

Logistics:

  • Liaise with the Warehouse Team to ensure that orders are planned and dispatched efficiently
  • Responsible for day to day management of finished stock
  • Carry out and ensure compliance with HMRC warehousing and movements requirements
  • Ensure compliance with documentation and other requirements by authorities in different countries
  • Monitor and improve warehouse and shipping KPI, including reduction of delivery lead times
  • Maintain stock levels within target levels
  • Resolve outbound supply chain complaints and issues, escalating serious issues to the MD
  • Put in place business continuity plans for outbound operations

Member of the Management Team:

  • Contribute to the development and delivery of the business strategy and objectives
  • Assist the MD to maintain a clear health and safety focus in the team
  • Ensure the MD and the team are provided with good quality guidance and insights on financial planning and business performance
  • Keep the team aware of legal or policy changes affecting areas of responsibility

General:

  • Provide support to the Managing Director as required
  • Be an advocate for change and new initiatives, identifying and developing opportunities for improvement and growth
