Our client, a global Oil and Gas operator with several major projects in Australia, requires an experienced External Relations Advisor based in Perth. Reporting to the Senior ER Advisor, this position is located within the Sustainable Development, Communications & External Affairs Team and will be overseeing and coordinating various community investment programs, ensuring the effective promotion of the Company's activities to internal and external stakeholders.

The successful candidate would ideally be very autonomous with an internal drive to go above and beyond, with the ability to implement and drive engagement across many business partners.

Key Responsibilities:

Community Investment

  • Oversee the Community Investment Program in Australia & Timor-Leste;
  • Implement and review community investment strategy, due diligence, processes and tools;
  • Manage community investment tracker & budget;
  • Coordinate with Digital & Internal Communications Advisor, and External Relations Advisors/Coordinator in Darwin, Dili and offices over East to ensure appropriate internal and external communications around community investment programs;
  • Manage Perth-based community investments and required approvals of these;
  • Shared Services point of contact for Community Investment;
  • Annual budget and corporate approvals process;
  • Reporting to stakeholders including ANPM and Joint Venturers;
  • Work closely with Darwin and Dili External Relations Team to plan and coordinate community investment and provide guidance to ensure a coordinated approach to maintaining relevant relationships with community partners;
  • Coordinate major strategic community partnerships ensuring the delivery of key activities, KPI's, milestones, reporting and leverage program partnerships to enhance the Company's reputation and support internal communications/staff participation.


  • Assist in developing and implementing an integrated communications strategy for external and internal audiences;
  • Work with External Relations and with other departments and projects to identify communication topics and messages that manage Company risks and opportunities;
  • Prepare communication materials which ensures effective promotion of the Company's activities to key stakeholders including, website, social media, brochures, posters, speeches and presentation material ready for approval.

Emergency Response

Work with Digital Media Advisor to ensure readiness and capacity for emergency response including accountability for:

  • Ensuring Public Information Officer team manuals are up to date and understood by the team;
  • Coordination of external relations team participation in exercises;
  • Supporting company spokespersons in training requirements;
  • Developing pre-reviewed external messaging.


  • Flexible, adaptable and able to work autonomously as well as part of a team.
  • Collaborate with team members in preparation of materials and content such as publications, website, speeches and organisation of events.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Formal qualifications or significant experience in communications, public relations, corporate/ government affairs or related discipline;
  • Experience in a communications, external relations and/or community relations role
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Strong ability to manage projects and work to deadlines;
  • Clear understanding of costs, budgets and accountability for expenditures;
  • Experience in drafting and development of key issues messaging and communications materials;
  • Experience in working within the Oil and Gas Industry or a similar industry is desirable;
  • Proven experience managing community investment and sponsorship programs is preferred;
  • Demonstrated understanding of and experience in the communication aspects of emergency response planning is advantageous.
