Electrical Maintenance Technician

The business provides sustainable waste management services across London. The company vision is to see no waste from sites sent to landfill.

Operating from a number of sites in London to provide a safe and secure alternative to landfill disposal. Also operating Reuse and Recycling Centres (RRCs) for household materials. Regulated facilities are integral to London's resource-economy; recovering energy from waste - enough to power more than 70,000 homes throughout the year - and providing reuse and recycling services.

Type of Role: Permanent

Hours: 39/week

Shift Pattern: Monday to Wednesday - 7.30am to 4.30pm / Thursday to Friday - 7.30am to 4.00pm

Responsible to: Engineering Supervisor / E&I Technician

Job Purpose:

The maintenance of all electrical and instrumentation equipment installed across the sites. To implement PPM on Electrical and Instrumentation equipment, minimize machine breakdowns and reduce lead times.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Providing an efficient breakdown repair service. Diagnosing running faults and ensuring effective repairs and improvements are conducted without supervision and within the minimum timescale.
  1. Carry out installation work to the required standards.
  1. Completing routine inspection and undertake preventative maintenance work as part of preventative maintenance management, in order to ensure equipment is consistently in good condition. This includes undertaking basic mechanical work such as but not limited to motor/coupling alignment, motor chain/belt drives, draining/refilling of gear boxes, manufacture of brackets and electrical equipment support structures, fabrication and installation of instrument pipework, light lifting and rigging etc.
  1. Diagnosing faults and carrying out effective repairs without supervision when on call out duty.
  1. To liaise with the outside contractors on specific repairs/maintenance work.
  1. Must be able to operate an MEWP and drive an FLT.
  1. To ensure that all statutory obligations are continuously met.
  1. To conduct and undergo relevant training.

Personal Characteristics and Competencies:

  1. NVQ level 3 or Trade certificate.
  1. Demonstrates a logical and systematic approach to fault-finding with relevant technical experience in repair, installation and PPM work in heavy process industry, this may constitute working through electrical drawings to rectify problems.
  1. Should have experience in

-PLC controlled equipment (ideally Allen Bradley)

-Variable speed drives

-High voltage and low-voltage equipment

-instrumentation (not essential training provided)

-Analysis and repair of pneumatic systems.

  1. Experience of working to the highest standards and the ability and self-motivation to develop his/her skills further.
  1. Strong communication and team-working/ cooperation skills
  1. Flexible attitude, and positive attitude towards coping with change, and able to accept responsibility.
  1. The nature of the job is such that many plant failures necessitate immediate action and this may require working outside of normal working hours on occasions. Such failures require the safest, fastest and most effective repair possible, hence a commitment to working such hours either on a call out basis or over time is essential.
  1. The job holder must be able to work in confined spaces and carry out work at height due to the configuration of the Plant.
