Job Title - EHS Advisor

Roles & Responsibilities (main functions)

The Client are both a well-known and well respected UK / Mainland Europe based manufacturing organisation. Reporting to the EHS Manager, he /she will maintain effective Health & Safety plus Environmental systems, ensuring that the plant operates at the highest standards of Health and Safety while ensuring compliance with H&S and Environmental legislation. He/she will have an HND/Degree level of qualification or suitable relevant experience in Environmental and Health & Safety disciplines.

The role will involve, but not limited to:

H&S -

* Ensuring suitable organisational arrangements are in place to achieve the Company's objectives.

* Development of a positive Health & Safety Culture throughout the Company.

* Work closely with Line Management to ensure they effectively implement Health & Safety procedures and support as required ensuring they discharge their statutory duties to operate a compliant Health & Safety work place.

* Develop the Company Health & Safety Management System ensuring that procedures are implemented on a systematic basis in order to deliver a compliant working environment.

* Audit the Health & Safety Management System to determine progression and compliance with current and proposed legislation.

* Develop, monitor and evolve Health & Safety Audit Protection Procedures on behalf of the Company ensuring compliance with legislation and that work activities have no detrimental effects on employees and non-employees.

* Liaise with enforcement agencies and legal representatives in matters of Health & Safety compliance and litigation.

* Maintain plus evolve the Companies Health and Safety Programmes.

* Ensure training is provided to the appropriate team.

* Liaise with Group H&S Affairs personnel.

* Line Management of the EHS Co-Ordinator.

Environmental -

* Ensuring suitable organisational arrangements are in place to achieve the policy's objectives.

* Development of a positive Environmental culture throughout the Company.

* Work closely with Line Management to ensure they effectively implement Environmental procedures and support as required ensuring they discharge their statutory duties to operate a compliant Environmental work place.

* Development of an effective Company Environmental Management System ensuring that procedures are implemented on a systematic basis in order to deliver a compliant working environment, with focus on Waste, Water, Air quality and Pollution.

* Audit the Environmental Management System and practice to determine progression and compliance with current and proposed legislation.

* Develop, monitor and evolve the Environmental Audit Protection Procedures on behalf of the Company ensuring compliance with legislation and that work activities have no detrimental effects on employees, non-employees and the local environment.

* Liaise with enforcement agencies (SEPA) and legal representatives in matters of Environmental compliance and litigation.

* Maintain plus improve ISO 14001 certification.

* Ensure training is provided to appropriate team.

* Liaise with Group Environmental Affairs personnel.

* Line Management of the EHS co-ordinator.

Safety Leadership and Participation

One of the strategic priorities is to operate the Inverness site with an interdependent safety culture and top decile safety performance, therefore any post holder must be prepared to display visible leadership and commitment to the Client's culture at all times. The Client are committed to the health and wellbeing of their employees, contractors and visitors by creating, maintaining, and continually improving a safe working environment.

Participation in safety activities includes but is not limited to:

* Actively participating in the near miss reporting process.

* Deliver Toolbox Talks.

* Being an active member of a relevant safety sub-committee.

* Participating in safety tours.

Skills, Knowledge & Attitudes / Behaviours

The post holder requires:

* Knowledge of H&S and Environmental Legislation.

* Previous management experience with ability to work in a fast moving environments.

* Good IT literacy and numeracy.

* Good communication skills both written and verbal, with all parts of the business.

* To be dependable, reliable and a good organiser.

* Previous experience in managing a team of direct reports.

* To demonstrate safety awareness and working knowledge of policy, standards and beliefs; ensuring same is present with direct reports.

* Experienced in use of Permit to Work systems, Safe Systems of Work, Risk Assessments.

Qualification(s) / Experience)

Essential

* HND/Degree level qualification.

* Relevant experience in a similar role.

* Health & Safety knowledge and experience.

* Experience of working within a fast-moving manufacturing environment.

* A proven communicator and implementer. We must see evidence that the candidate can influence those over whom he/she does not have direct authority.

* Interpersonal skills must allow the successful candidate to not only influence people internally but also to relate effectively to our employees, contractors and regulators.

* Experience of ISO 14001 and ISO18001product certification preferred.

* Evidence of training in Safety & Environmental plus previous successes.

Desirable

* Previous responsibility for leading a team in a 24/7 working environment.

Experience of change management including performance management.

Personal Protective Equipment Requirements

The successful candidate will be working in a manaufacturing site, indoors and outdors, in all weather conditions and will wear appropriate PPE to meet the conditions in force at any given time, as laid down in the Client site rules. Due care and attention must be taken with PPE at all times to ensure PPE remains fit for purpose.

* Can apply appropriate Client Safe Systems Of Work at all times.

* Displays compliance with all company policies and procedures.

* Is able to assess and evaluate risk, contributes fully in monitoring, quality assurance and communicating risk assessment at operational level.
