Our Client is looking for a District Heating - Technical Expert with experience in the entire project life cycle; design to tendering bids and commissioning/installation. Specifically looking for someone who is technically minded and has experience in intereacting/liasing with the customer.

District Heating (DH) UK

  • The DH expert will be the technical face of DH to the customer. They will be responsible for managing the technical delivery of DH projects for The Client in the UK. This involves compiling the engineering/technical information for tender bid submission, ensuring all technical aspects are covered and DH design solutions are identified throughout the development and implementation cycle of DH project. The delivery needs to happen to time and budget across a wide range of activities.
  • The DH expert will be responsible for a mix of technical engineering, stakeholder management and project management competence and experience. You must be proactive, comfortable working with minimal supervision and have experience in an equivalent role in DH engineering, design/commercialisation and installation. This includes ensuring the upskilling and knowledge growth of this competence area for The Client.
  • Given the engineering experience that is required by the role, you will expected to (with support from relevant engineering and proposal management departments) write technical specifications; review and approve designs; technical submissions; and have experience in checking installation against design; acceptance testing post commissioning; producing models and reports for presentation back to customers and assisting customers set up the internal processes and frameworks for ensuring the effective delivery and operation of heat networks.
  • It is expected that the DH Expert will assist The Client to develop into a leading expert within the market with regards to: heat network engineering, design, installation and performance analysis of networks; and the cost and effectiveness of implementing different types of physical interventions to heating systems and component equipment (e.g. HIUs).


  • Support the development of a DH services business in the UK.
  • Preparation of technical aspects of tender submissions.
  • Develop technical capabilities in District Heating in the UK at The Client.
  • Guiding engineers to support District Heating projects.
  • Technical lead on projects and in discussions with customers.
  • Identify cost-effective and innovative solutions, in accordance with customer requirements.
  • Delivery of projects in accordance with customer requirements.
  • Leading engineering teams and managing subcontractors.
  • Reporting to the DH project manager on a regular basis.
  • Identifying risks and mitigations, to enable The Client to develop a DH services business.
  • Support the development of new tools and systems and ad hoc projects.
  • Identify opportunities for the sale of services, including the development of new products, where appropriate.
  • Manage projects to ensure delivery to time, cost and quality.
  • Heat network sizing calculations, including analysis of heat loads.
  • Work with client team and/or D&B contractors to design heat networks.

Key requirements


  • Engineering Degree: Mechanical, Chemical or Building Services preferred
  • Working knowledge of CIBSE and RIBA guidance on heat network and project development
  • CIBSE Heat Network Consultant
  • Minimum 5years design experience (10 years preferred) within engineering (mechanical, chemical or building services) with at least [4] yeas in heat networks.
  • Practical and deliver experience in HNDU district heating projects in engineering, design and installation.
  • Knowledge of District Heating network design and operations.
  • Knowledge of CHP and Energy Centre design and operations.
  • Commercial understanding, cost awareness and business acumen.
  • Track record in tender bid submissions. Demonstration of wins will be an advantage.
  • Delivery of DH heat mapping studies, preliminary engineering, design and installation.


  • Asset performance management: has experience at monitoring, assessing and improving operational assets
  • APMP Project Management Qualification
  • Chartered Engineer
  • Contract management
  • Experience of working with Heat Network ESCO companies
  • Awareness of Construction Design and Management Regulations,
  • Success in solving complex problems in a structured and professional way.
  • Engineering project management experience and exposure to budget control.
