Compliance and Legal Officer

Our Software Technology client is currently seeking a Compliance and Legal Officer for their location in Cork City, though the role can be performed remotely due to the current situation. A future presence in Cork would likely be required.

The ideal candidate would be highly adaptive and motivated, excited by, and willing to work in an agile flat culture/structure.

Responsibilities/Job Function:

  • Take ownership, adapt and manage the existing legal compliance framework
  • Develop and review the company policies
  • Advise management of the company's compliance with laws and regulations
  • Engage with and manage key stakeholders and outsourced partners including Legal Advisors
  • Oversee and manage all data privacy and legal compliance queries received from existing customers and clients
  • Manage interactions with regulatory bodies in Europe and North America
  • Regularly audit company procedures, practices and documents to identify risks
  • Plan, implement and oversee risk - related programs
  • Assess company practices to identify compliance risks
  • Create and manage effective actions plans in response to audit discoveries and compliance gaps
  • Ensure all employees are trained on the latest regulations and best practices for data protection and legal compliance
  • Lead and support attainment of compliance, data protection and information security certifications (e.g. ISO27001)
  • Support Business Development activities, by working with Legal advisors to draft all appropriate legal documents including but not limited to NDA's; LoE's, MSA's, Terms of User Agreements, etc.

Basic Qualifications (Required):

  • 7+ years of experience in leading compliance/risk functions in the financial or FinTech industry.
  • In-depth exposure to and knowledge of KYC, AML and Anti-Fraud regulations and best practices.
  • Undergraduate Degree in Law, Finance, Compliance or similar
  • Experience with Agile teams.
  • Ability to execute projects and tasks with minimal guidance and supervision.
  • Experience of working as a Data Protection Officer (DPO).

Additional Skills (Required):

  • An expert in Data Protection, Legal and Compliance regulations.
  • A proven ability to build strong working relationships with industry counterparts, regulators, partners, and at board level.

Additional Skills (Preferred):

  • Familiarity and experience of implementing certification programs such as ISO27001, ISO27701, SOC1 / SOC2.
  • A keen interest in technology and leveraging the latest toolsets to complement and shape compliance functions and controls.
