Orion Group are recruiting for a Communications Manager on behalf of our multinational pharmaceutical client based in the Buckinghamshire area on an initial 12 month contract.

Role Purpose
* To plan, lead and implement product and therapy area communications activities (proactive and reactive) within the Communications & Public Affairs team
* To develop and implement compelling and impactful communications strategies to drive growth of our Dynamic Champion brands and support business objectives: build the company's profile and reputation with external stakeholders in our key Therapy Areas of focus; anticipate and react to issues affecting the business; build thought leadership in our priority TAs; and demonstrate the value of our priority brands through media activity around scientific data and regulatory milestones, real world evidence or stakeholder partnerships.
* To coach and develop direct reports by providing ongoing counsel, support and sharing of best practice.
* To develop relationships of trust with relevant external customers (patients, patient advocacy groups & media) and key internal stakeholders to help shape and influence the environment and position the company as a trusted and respected business partner.

Job Responsibilities

Brand Communications
* Is the Communications lead for all matters related to Product and Therapy Area Communications across our therapy areas including:
o Environmental understanding as it pertains to our TAs and provide updates on significant external developments, including competitor news
o Provide insight and strategic counsel to business partners
o Build and strengthen relationships with media, patient advocacy groups (as appropriate and in collaboration with Patient Engagement Team) and other stakeholders
o Ensure close alignment with CVTs, Commercial Leads and Business Unit Directors to ensure brand communications strategies fully align with business needs
* Develop and implement Product and TA communication strategies that drive our priority TAs and brands (Dynamic Champions) to support our ambition to become MAC #1 for promoted brands and to build the company's profile and reputation with external stakeholders.
* Support disease awareness campaigns and partnership projects with advocacy groups working with Patient Engagement leads, as required
* Act as first point of contact with media for enquiries relating to Brand Communications and ensure handover to Brand & TA Communication Managers, or Senior Manager Corporate Communications (or designated other) in times of absence
* Provide regular status updates to the Director of Communications & Public Affairs
* Support development of Comms & PA updates to the Management Committee and the development of briefing documents for senior management on key topics and issues
* Work with leads for Corporate Communications and Internal Engagement to ensure that appropriate and compliant Therapy Area Communications activity is leveraged through internal and corporate, social and digital media channels
* Benchmark activity with appropriate metrics and evaluate success on a quarterly basis or as appropriate (quantitative and qualitative evaluation).

Essential Technical Knowledge, skills and experience

* At least 8 years' experience in pharmaceutical brand/product and therapy area/franchise communications, either in-house or within an agency/consultancy
* Expertise in core healthcare communications disciplines
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to translate complex scientific data into compelling communications materials
* Strong media knowledge and journalist contacts
* Knowledge of new models of communication including digital and social media
* High level of understanding of the ABPI Code of Practice
* Strong technical competencies relevant to Brand/Product Communications, including issues management and proactive, compliant product communications
* Strong negotiating and influencing skills
* BA Honours degree or equivalent (not subject specific)
