Job Purpose

Provide support to the Engineering Services Managers and Head of Engineering in management of civil and geotechnical engineering activities affecting the Company. Ensuring that civil engineering work associated with maintenance, modifications and protection comply with external legislative and internal policy requirements. Work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure the Integrity of all company's nassets are maintained. Promotion of constructive relationship with Enforcing Authorities (e.g. HSE, EA, Ofgem) and external Industry bodies (e.g. UKOPA, ENA).

Knowledge & Experience Required

* Engineering knowledge and experience, in particular civil and geotechnical engineering issues affecting pipeline networks and associated assets, such as:

o General Civil and Geotechnical engineering design

o Gas carrying support structure design and assessments

o External loading on pipelines and pipeline integrity assessment

o Geohazards affecting company's assets

o Slope stability assessments

o Soil / pipeline interaction assessments

o Deal with implications of civil engineering works adjacent to pipelines with unknown weld quality

o Design of protection measures for pipelines and verification of other's designs

o Appraisal of any 3rd party designs and RAMS potentially impacting Company's assets

* Sound working knowledge of practices for compliance with policies and procedures, in particular engineering requirements and HSE requirements; or demonstrate ability to assimilate and develop understanding of engineering policies and procedures and requirements in a similar discipline.

* Sound working knowledge of relevant UK engineering standards or demonstrate ability to assimilate and develop understanding of industry standards in a similar discipline.

* Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations applicable to safe design and operation of the network and maintenance and inspection of assets or demonstrate ability in applying Health & safety regulations for safe design, operation and maintenance of other similar assets

* Knowledge on pipeline design, construction and maintenance issues.

* Construction site experience desirable.

* A confident communicator with strong networking and influencing skills and the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships across a variety of stakeholders.

Essential Qualifications

Recognised engineering or technical qualification (ideally degree level).

Relevant technical knowledge and experience in subject area.

Desirable Qualifications

Chartered Engineer, member of appropriate engineering institution (e.g. ICE, IGEM, IMechE)
