Job description

Reporting directly to the Electrical Engineering Manager, the Controls and Automation Engineer will be responsible for design and implementation of control systems that support process operations and maximize productivity.

The Controls and Automation engineer will work closely with engineering teams to lead technical support during early projects development stages, including but not limited to, Pre-FEED, FEED, and Detailed Design. The role involves active engagement with engineering contractors, Direct-Air-Capture & Point-Source-Capture technology partners to ensure successful integration and operation of facilities systems. This role also involves active collaboration with technical teams within the company to apply best practices, lessons learnt, and latest technologies to ensure overall process safety and capital efficiency

What you'll do:

* Act as the focal point for controls and automation team and liaise with vendors to maintain facilities systems operational integrity and reliability

* Support in delivery of Pre-FEED, FEED, and Detailed Design work packages for engineering contractors and cost estimations for instrumentation and controls scope

* Design and implement facilities automation systems, including but not limited to, DCS and PLC systems

* Provide technical design support for projects and operations for regulatory control, sequence & process safety control, HAZOP, and risk assessment support

* Develop electrical design schematics and drawings in AutoCAD

* Lead design, implementation and start-up of facilities process control systems and work closely with technology providers during FAT/SAT for verification and validation of systems

* Provide technical support during PLC installation & programming, maintenance, and upgrades to existing control systems

* Lead development and implementation of control strategies, standards, and guidelines according to industry best practices

* Design and develop software applications based on process concept specifications

* Lead troubleshooting of automation and control issues related of facilities systems

* Participate in technical reviews and work with other engineering teams to ensure proper implementation of automation control and design features

* Keep abreast of supplier products and new technologies

Who you are:

* Strong believer in sustainability and negative emissions

* Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team

* Adaptable and willing to learn new technologies

* Having experience with PLC systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens etc.). PLC programming is a bonus

* Having experience with Human-Machine interfaces (Ignition, FactoryTalk ME, Siemens WinCC) is a bonus

* Having experience with Systems engineering and Design

* Highly experienced with troubleshooting of control systems

* Familiar with various motion controllers / Actuators

* Having proficiency in reading detailed electrical & control schematics

* Having proficiency in at least one general purpose language (Python, C, C++, JavaScript etc.)

* Having general understanding of web technologies (API, server, etc.)

* Having sufficient knowledge in industry standards for automation and control

* Minimum of an Engineering Bachelor's degree in instrumentation, electronics, automation, or equivalent

* Having +3 years of relevant industry experience
