Contract role - immediate start

Rate - £12.02 per hour

Location - Glenrothes, Fife

Our client a leading manufacturing business based in Glenrothes is seeking to appoint a Buyer to join their procurement department.

Position Summary:

To be an integral part of the Procurement function in the achievement of Operational objectives. With a solid background in material planning to ensure that the correct level of stock is maintained to support customer and factory service requirements.

Essential Functions:

  • To use the business system and other business information to identify what materials and quantities need to be ordered to satisfy customer and factory requirements and place orders on suppliers to ensure requirements are ordered for required dates.

  • To ensure that suppliers confirm order delivery dates and update business system to ensure these dates are visible to other departments.

  • To maintain dialogue with suppliers on a regular basis to ensure that goods are being dispatched on time and to review goods received on a daily basis to ensure that goods expected have arrived.

  • To review run rates of fast moving products and maintain safety stock levels accordingly

  • To communicate clearly and concisely any challenges and/or risks that may impact internal or external customers.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • To identify ways to improve supplier delivery dates to align with customer and business requirements and to manage exception freight Authorisation process where appropriate.

  • To ensure supplier and product data held within business systems remains accurate and up to date to support effectiveness of MRP system.

  • To monitor stock levels on a regular basis and request amendments to supplier delivery dates should stock levels be increasing.

Education, Knowledge, Skills, Training, and Experience:


  • Good Higher grades (English, Math's) HNC in an administrative discipline would be an advantage.
  • CIPS Qualified or working towards would be a distinct advantage.


  • Operating in a fast-paced environment to challenging deadlines.
  • Background in Manufacturing preferred.


  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills.
  • Strong MS Office, particularly advanced Excel skills and MS Project experience.
  • Excellent problem solver.
  • Can demonstrate the ability to prioritise, multitask whilst retaining attention to detail and accuracy.
  • MRP experience; knowledge of Baan and CRM would be a distinct advantage.
  • Self-motivated and flexible.
