Biochemist - Protein Purification & AKTA
Onsite in South San Francisco, CA
6+ month initial contract
Hourly Rate: $54-58/hr
Work Hours: Monday to Friday, 8am-5pm

Orion Life Sciences is seeking a senior scientist to join a talented team developing purification/downstream processes for biologics GMP applications. This is an onsite position for our global pharmaceutical client in South San Francisco, CA. In this position the candidate will perform purification development, scale-up, viral clearance and technology transfer activities in a well-supported and dynamic environment to help advance novel cancer therapies to human clinical studies.

Key responsibilities include:
* Innovate, develop, optimize, and scale-up purification processes
* Conceive and evaluate novel advanced separation technologies and techniques
* Proactively seek out new information in the literature and incorporate this into individual project(s) as well as the overall program
* Transfer processes to GMP manufacturing for clinical material production
* Work with contract labs and carry out viral clearance studies
* Record and manage multiple data sets in electronic notebooks, internal data base and excel files
* Perform general lab maintenance including cleanliness and maintaining inventory
* Collaborate within the team in order to follow best practices and meet project goals
* Must have a positive 'can do attitude'
* Must be comfortable with physical activities of constant standing, walking, sitting and occasionally lifting up to 35 Ibs
* Provide verbal updates and presentations at group meetings


Basic Qualifications:
* Doctorate (Ph.D.) degree in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, bioengineering, or a related field, with at least 0-3 years of experience
* Must have expertise in protein purification including chromatography separations and filtration operations
* Experience with AKTA chromatographic instruments (such as AKTA Avant, AKTA Purifier, AKTA Pure, AKTA Ready or similar) is preferred
* Hands on experience with monoclonal antibody or antibody-like molecule purification at GMP, pilot and/or laboratory scale is preferred
* Strong understanding of analytical techniques (such as HPLC and ELISA) is preferred
* Able to author publications, technical reports, regulatory documents, and presentations
* Able to independently design, execute, and interpret laboratory experiments to answer scientific questions
* Must be forward-thinking and be able to lead and contribute to scientific/technical discussions
* Able to independently learn, understand and execute novel/advanced scientific techniques
* Has excellent attention to detail and ability to keep detailed written records in lab notebook
* Has strong communication skills including verbal, written, and scientific data presentation
* Able to work collaboratively within and outside of the group
* Has proficiency with Microsoft Office software, ability to learn new software applications
