We are looking to recruit an Associate Director into a Transport Planning Business in either the Hertfordshire or London offices.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an accomplished team and work on a range of urban transport planning and transport modelling including urban micro-simulation projects for a wide variety of clients.

The Associate Director will report to the Urban Space Team Leader within a team with collaborative and open office environment. A key part of this role is winning and delivering work as well as providing leadership, mentoring and technical advice for aspiring team members. As such, this role will not only need to have experience of traffic and transport modelling and transport planning, but also managing multi-disciplinary projects and delivering to the clients' full satisfaction, within challenging time and competitive budget.

The Hertfordshire office is one of the central hubs for the Transport Planning and Development Planning team, located 30 minutes north from London St Pancras / Kings Cross, and on the Thameslink railway line with direct routes to Croydon, Wimbledon, Luton, Brighton, and more. London is another major hubs for the global consultancy services, and working closely with colleagues in Hertfordshire, as well as other offices.

Clients include national and local transport authorities such as the UK Department of Transport and Transport for London, major sporting projects such as the London Olympic Delivery Authority, private developers of land and transport facilities as well as overseas institutions such as the Dubai' Roads and Traffic Authority. We develop and use some of the most sophisticated transport modelling techniques, applying a range of specialist software, and offer a comprehensive internal training programme to further assist professional and technical development. The successful Principal Transport Planner will be joining a growing Transport Planning team that is actively involved in the delivery of projects and services to a range of both local and national clients

Minimum Requirements

  • Sound knowledge of transport modelling software, especially micro-simulation modelling such as VISSIM, PARAMICS and junction modelling such as LINSIG, SYDRA etc.
  • Familiarity with NR and LUL's model development and audit processes, and will have in-depth experience of significant model development
  • Experience and understanding of other transport modelling software including one or more SATURN, CUBE, EMME, VISSIM, VISUM, TUBA.
  • Experience of presenting to large audiences
  • Project management (delivering large/medium projects in pedestrian modelling to quality standards, on time, and within budget)
  • Experience of line management and small to medium team management
  • Supervision of workload and support to junior staff
  • Manage and lead a team of professionals
  • Business Development and proposal preparation
  • Capability to manage client contact and liaison without supervision
  • Leadership in producing quality client reports to a high technical standard
  • Involvement with broader business development activity and raising of the team's and company's profile

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant BSc/MSc/BEng Civil Engineering / Transport planning degree
  • Post-graduate qualifications an advantage
  • Membership or working towards membership of a chartered professional institution such as CIHT, TPS, CILT or ICE
