The current position of Analytical Chemist requires a candidate with the requisite skills, qualifications and experience to run and maintain our GC/MSD and GC instruments and support all aspects of laboratory work. The candidate will also need to demonstrate the potential to train and develop for a more senior role going forward.

Together with an experienced GC Analysis Technician your primary responsibility will be to run routine quality samples on gas chromatography and gas chromatography/mass spectroscopy instruments for higher alcohols, EC, acetic acid and effluent analysis. You will also be principally responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the GC/MSD instrument which is used to support wood maturation project work in particular and other non-routine analysis.

Provide technical expertise for method development, validation (LOD, LOQ) and troubleshooting.

Maintain Spirit laboratory methods and risk assessments.

Maintain the laboratory COSSH and MSDS data base.

Prepare certificates of analysis for Commercial team.

Training in Process and Microbiology duties will be given so that you can cover these areas when necessary.

Record and report routine analysis through excel spread-sheets on site computer drives.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

· BSc (Hons) 2.1 in Chemistry or related Science

· At least 3 years hands-on method validation, troubleshooting and maintenance experience with GC/MSD and GCs.

· A good standard of numeracy and skills in data analysis

· A creative self-confident individual who can take initiative to investigate and solve complex problems; take responsibility and work under their own supervision

· Demonstrate planning and time management to prioritise and schedule work

· Empathetic team player who is able to be flexible, agile and methodical

· Familiarity with HPLC
